How are all you mofos doing?! It’s been two weeks since you last heard from me and with good reason. I’ve had some of the most fun and happy weekends despite one of the rainiest June months I can remember. I had weekends full of friends, lots of laughter, Vee’s hilarious antics, spending time with my husband, and caring less about the house not being perfectly in order or not knowing where my freelance jobs are going to come from. It’s been freeing and just FUN! One of the awesome things my husband and I did was go to Wolf Trap to hear the National Symphony Orchestra play the score to Back to the Future LIVE while we watched it on the big screen. We had been looking forward to going for months. The night was perfect and bonus – Lea Thompson and the composer of the score, Alan Silvestri, were there, too! It was a pretty incredible experience – the wind blowing, the sun setting, and Marty and Doc gunning it to 88mph. It was everything I hoped it would be and more.
That same weekend, I attended my first drag queen brunch. I was scared out of my mind because I wasn’t sure what type of participation they were going to expect out of the crowd. I am no good in “on-the-spot” situations. I get all shy and tense up, then go speechless and suffer from intense “Monday morning quarterback syndrome” on the witty comeback or the perfect answer that now seems so obvious. In the end, I did get called out but no participation was required on my part. Our server at the brunch was Beyoncé and her performance was SPOT. ON.
My sister, Jenny, is getting married next year and gathered her bridesmaids together for a dinner to unofficially start the wedding festivities and to get to know each other a little better. We had dinner at Barcelona Wine Bar and it was so ::: drools ::::. There are no words to describe how delicious. I had a wonderful time hanging out with my sister and talking wedding stuffs. The best was her expression when the girls revealed we had been working together on a keepsake book full of stories with my sis and words of advice on her impending marriage. I designed the book but it couldn’t have been done without the help of the bridesmaids, who are now officially known as #sixshadesofjenny.
My husband and I od’ed on Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight. I wasn’t a huge fan of Boyhood but these three movies, I can’t get enough of. We watched the movies while Vee took her nap, before we went to bed, and when we woke up. I guess we were in the mood for that easy, funny, interesting minutia driven conversation between Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke’s characters. They’re both so insanely good in that movie – my eyes are literally glues to the screen. Yes. LITERALLY GLUED.
And finally, 4th of July was pretty low-key. Vee was in a wonderful little mood. We hung out outside (where I proceeded to get bitten up like crazy by mosquitos that can’t resist my dark meat, according to my husband), chased Vee around with sparklers and watched her parade around the house in excitement. We watched the fireworks on TV and Vee couldn’t have loved it more, to my surprise. Next year, we’ll definitely do it up and see ’em in person.
YAY! Time-wasters for creatives!
Must purchase Judd Apatow’s book. He retweeted my tweet about me wishing I had the book and so now I have to make it happen because, PEER PRESSURE!
I love Kung Fu Panda! I will be there when the new one comes out. Check out the trailer.
Recently discovering that I do, in fact, like over easy eggs, I will be trying this out next weekend. I can already taste the crunchy and gooey goodness.
I listened to a few podcasts from Mortified. A few of them are pretty amusing.
Speaking of podcasts, my husband just turned me onto How Did This Get Made? SO good.
What can you get for $0.78 these days? A DOZEN KRISPY KREME DONUTS, THAT’S WHAT!
