Last week passed by like a blur. I can recap it with only these words: sleep deprivation. I had a lot of freelance deadlines I had to meet which meant a lot of late nights for me. I feel motivated in times like that and productive, too. But looking at my average sleep on my fitbit results, I can’t help but cringe. Not good. Then came the crazy rains this area had over the weekend and I was able to for real sleep in a bit. I did more than half of my sister’s Disney puzzle she was putting together, watched old episodes of Project Runway, and it was bliss. I ended the weekend with breakfast with one of my girlfriends and listened to Audy record his latest episode for Cinema Samurai’s Film Don’t Lie Podcast. Continue reading

This summer has been a particularly difficult one to get motivated. Whether it’s the 9-5, personal projects, freelance work, or keeping Vee entertained, I find myself getting caught up in the dum dum of worry. It does happen less and less and I find myself letting go more often and wondering why I can’t do this all the time. Right now, I can feel myself sort of pulling out from this cuckoo mindset and enjoying silly things like Michael Phelps racing a “shark.” LOL did any of you watch that last night? Continue reading

I’ve had a draft of Monday Inspiration since January 30 of this year. I’ve been trying to get my brain right with a ton of changes I’ve gone through along with my family in the last year. Every time I felt like I could handle shit, here comes something else. I haven’t been doing well with the constant change. I’ve prepared to write a post a ton of times but it always came in second to a Netflix binge-watch or the ultimate winner: sleep. The good thing is, I’m starting to find pockets of time that are becoming consistent with a set routine. And that is exciiiiiiting! Even though I’ve been gone for a long ass time, I have managed to do more than just sleep.

This past weekend was spent at a local waterpark with friends and a trip to IKEA yesterday. I need all kinds of organizational ideas for our home but really, I was feigning some Swedish meatballs and man, did they deliver. So, in the end, I’m ready to try and see if I can start this sharing and encapsulating my life thing again on Peety Blogs. Thanks for sticking around and for those just joining, welcome welcome.

I’m getting so obsessed with enamel pins. They remind me of the band and punk buttons I used to collect in high school. Here are a few I want to add to my collection: 1) Draw Something 2) Nah 3) Nap Queen 4) Introvert and 5) Fuzzy Legs.

This book has been out for a while but it doesn’t make me want it any less.

This is me except I need to get the whole waking up early thing happening. And this supports that.

I love this visual essay by Debbie Millman.

People are sharing photos of real-life places that look like they belong in a Wes Anderson film.

Love the idea behind this notebook.

Currently listening to this audiobook.

I’ve bookmarked this article on change so I haven’t read it, yet, but it looks like a good one.

Pre-order Adam J. Kurtz’s book available October 2017.

Check out the new typeface on Lost Type Co-op.

My weekend was full of laughter, friends, and dancing. My sister held her annual music video class and taught the iconic dance moves to “Thriller” in honor of Halloween. Per usual, I made a fool of myself but it was in the best and most fun way possible. Speaking of Halloween, why was the SNL sketch with Tom Hanks as David Pumpkins so hilarious?! It shouldn’t have worked at all!

I also had breakfast with my best friend Sunday morning. What is it about a couple hours with your girlfriend, coffee and noms that helps you recenter yourself? Nothing beats refueling on girl talk and venting to make all else right in the world. Continue reading

Last week I mentioned Bryan Cranston‘s book was released. I did end up putting Anna Karenina on the back burner so I could listen and so far – it’s so intriguing. His life was going all over the place and to hear the things he’s experienced and what life he came from is fascinating. I’m so glad I’m listening to it right now. Definitely recommend!

My husband and I went to the House of Cards walking tour yesterday hosted by the Smithsonian. It was the perfect day to be outside and walking for as long as we did. We had a healthy walk down Pennsylvania Avenue and learned about some of D.C.’s history and how it connects to House of Cards. We ended with lunch at a D.C. bbq placed, Hill Country. Drools ensued. Can I just tell you how much fun I’ve been having contributing to InkTober so far? My latest addition is: This is Alex. I’ve been trying wanting to do this type of project for a while but needed a boost and Jake Parker’s InkTober prompt list was the perfect opportunity. The stories are fueled by the different sides of my personality or thoughts and giving them a name. There’s something kinda funny but also truthful about looking at aspects of my life as their own “person.” I sort of feel like this should be book. Continue reading

inblogSup, party people. I received a FutureMe email about a week ago. The email contents were my continued contribution of a blog post I read on Cup of Jo and wrote about it here. This time around, the words I used to describe me were professionally confused, happy, compartmentalizer, tired and anxiety-ridden. It isn’t a drastic change of my current state so maybe I get points for consistency? 😉

It’s been a rainy week in the DC area but it finally let up over the weekend. My husband and I went to this lecture about the remake of The Magnificent Seven hosted by the Smithsonian. It was a cool way to spend a Saturday morning and learn a little something in a casual setting. The annual Crafty Bastards event was this past weekend, too. My sister, Vee, and I made the short trek to Union Market to walk thru all the vendor booth and eat some food truck goodies. I can spend a few hundred dollars easily at this event so I carried a very limited supply of cash in an effort to curb my spending – and it worked! Vee was the winner with us buying this set of Pantone books, Bob the Artist, and Where Did They Go?. Continue reading

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes (Turn and face the strange)
Turn and face the strain
Ch-ch-Changes
Don’t have to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
Ch-ch-Changes (Turn and face the strange)
Don’t want to be a better man
Time may change me
But I can’t trace time

I feel you, Bowie. It’s been almost a month since I’ve been ’round these parts but that’s because a lot has been going on. Our family has visited the beach and consumed our weight in french fries and ice cream. Vee basically woke up one morning and started using the toilet like she’s been doing it forever. She also started pre-school and gave no f*cks about being on her own. That means we’re doing something right, right?! My husband started an amazing new job where they actually value his experience and knowledge – who would’ve thought that still existed in the workplace?! But the ch-ch-ch-ch-changes Bowie talks about are more with myself and my husband. Life turned itself upside down and inside out on us and as we tried to navigate thru the weeds, a new mindset revealed itself to us. There are more changes right around the corner and imma try this thing where I focus on myself and being positive rather than worry about the “whats ifs.” Wish me luck! Continue reading

I had a super severe case of the Mondays this morning as I was getting bloodwork drawn for my routine physical. The lady drawing my blood had the most delightful attitude for this time of day and week that I couldn’t refrain from telling her that she just gave me motivation for my day. She said to me, “Ya know, I can’t complain. I’ve got good health, a roof over my head, a job I can tolerate, and co-workers I generally like.” Totally the mindset I needed for a cuckoo bananas day like today. Thank you blood-drawer lady, for reminding me that it doesn’t take much to change your mindset. Continue reading

August freakin’ one. It’s been a long time since I’ve talked to you guys. Quite a few changes have happened for my fam in the last month which is why Monday Inspiration has been M.I.A. One thing I’ve learned to be true about myself and can finally admit – I am NOT good with sudden change. If I know a change is coming, I guess I can prepare for it but I’m still the worst worrier known to mankind. However, if a change comes outta the dark and blindsides me?! I am out of commission for at least a few weeks. My insides are churning at this concession but I can’t deny it at any longer – I HATE CHANGE. My husband always has an amazing way to give me strength and although it sounds simple everyone else, he knows what I need to hear to help me pick myself back up. So, right now, our mantra is: Ride the Wave. Simple, right? But right now, those words are giving me LIFE. Continue reading
