Excuse me while I chug my coffee.

My husband introduced me to the You Must Remember This podcast. I started with the 12-part Charles Manson story because even though I know he’s completely cuckoo fuckin’ bananas, I didn’t really know many details about how events unfolded in the way they did. Man, I started getting super freaked out by episode 10. I was so freaked out that I stopped listening because I needed to give all the sadness, crazy, insanity and depressing sounds to my eardrums a rest! I cleansed myself with a lot of Mickey Mouse with Vee… which I guess you could argue is its own kind of insanity. You can listen through the website but I’ve also been listening here.

Hope you guys had a relaxing holiday weekend. This week’s goals are to find a new hairdresser, find a dentist for Vee and get some new freelance work! Help is greatly appreciated in any of these departments.

Have you guys ever had zucchini soup? I’m intrigued. In an effort to eat more soup this fall/winter, I may have to try to make this.

Would you make fun of me if I wore this, this or this pin? Because I WANT THEM ALL!

Love these printable envelopes.

Finally, a Buzzfeed list that actually will make my life better (discovered on my sis-in-law‘s FB page).

Peety Interviews: The Little Red Door

Peety Interviews is a series that aims to highlight unique artists of all types and their creative process while learning something from and about them along the way.

The Little Red Door is run by the insanely talented Toni, whose personality and sense of humor is just as awesome as her fantastic clay goods. She is celebrating 7 years on Etsy (holy crap!) and is generously offering 30% off orders through the end of March with checkout code ‘AWESOME.’ Score! So get to it and check out her shop on Etsy.

Give us the skinny on The Little Red Door.
How did you come to make your iconic clay houses?
I was about to start cleaning up from a day’s pottery work. On the table before me were little lumps of clay and I noticed one faintly resembled a house. I squared up the edges and etched a roof line & door into the front, and voilà: my very first house was created. Then I made all my other clay scraps into houses and lined them up in front of me. I remember looking at these tiny houses for a very long time and thinking “Hmm.” And then I thought “I’m going to make a million of these.”

How did you settle on the name, The Little Red Door?
I wanted a brand name not necessarily indicating ceramics as I wanted the option to sell any of my creations under it regardless of their format. Nothing like “clay ___ by ___.” It took me forever to decide. The first houses I made were all glazed similarly and when they came out of the kiln my friend squealed how cute they were with “their little red doors.” That stuck in my head and I went with it. Looking back I have to laugh hard and say a little prayer of thanks that I did not go with “Handmade For You by ToniLou”. Continue reading

Monday Inspiration: Sept 8, 2014

The start of football season. Ah. Even though I don’t watch football anywhere near as avidly as I have in years past, I still love what it signifies: family and friends camaraderie, a set schedule for the weekends (and occasionally, a Thursday night), and lots of yummy homemade foods. Plus, fall will shortly be upon us – my favorite time of year. Amidst all the craziness in my life, it’s nice to have these small things to look forward to.

There’s a lot of inspiration to go around in this edition. Let’s do this.

Inspiration time:

I love this DIY geometric pocket notebook from CuriousDoodles.

That’s it. I seriously need to start waking up earlier. It’s the only way to get shit done.

Something tells me I would love the smell of the crayola factory.

Make your robot dance!

Free fonts! I’m digging Jaapokki.

I’ve been periodically checking out, where awards are given for design, creativity and innovation on the internet.

“Real Heroines” is an ongoing project that compiles notable women from the past who cultivated their minds and overcame adversity by defying social conventions.

I’m excited about trying out Hubbble, where all your favorited tweets are emailed to you so you don’t forget about them!

Ha, what a fun 404 page.

Everyone’s brain starts out female, ey? Interesting…

I wonder if Joan Rivers’ funeral requests in her 2012 book will be honored.

Love love love this IKEA commercial parodying Apple.

Monday Inspiration – late edition | June 24, 2014

Hello hello, friends. This past weekend, my family and I celebrated a belated Father’s Day for my dad. My sister’s boyfriend took us all out on his powerboat, we had delicious skewers and got to spend a lot of time outdoors. It was wonderfully relaxing. My husband and I also watched Dear Mr. Watterson on Netflix. Watterson was the creator of Calvin and Hobbes. The documentary was awesome – we were incredibly moved and amazed at the skill that goes into creating comics. I didn’t realize how much I took it for granted. It is an absolute must see – totally recommend it.

I’ve got WAY too much good stuff to share this week, so settle in, grab lunch and let’s get to it.

Inspiration time:

My favorite thing to share this week. Two anonymous students sneak into a classroom and leave only this artwork. Beautiful beautiful beautiful!

Dave Foster lettered all his tweets for the month of May. Awesome.

So many great things on FPO right now:

FPO wedding invites: I love the unique size of these wedding invites. It looks like it fits a #10 envelope – very cool.

FPO Prom packaging: I’m obsessing over the way Alex Anderson shares his icon work. Looks great on packaging, too.

FPO product packaging: I want to engrave things! I could see a mini-peety drawing done in this style.

Font freebies!

FINALLY! Zodiac tattoos on Tattly!

Take a cue from Anthony Bourdain and spend 10 minutes in your Meez.

Sugru and Legos are a winning combination.

A beautifully designed mug that you can easily stack. Yes, please.

Um, I need a batman engraved rolling pin, STAT.

Monday Inspiration | Dec 30, 2013

Say whaaat?! It’s the last week of 2013, peeps! How’s that resolution list coming along? I took a look at mine from last year and even though my list wasn’t grand in any way, I realized I accomplished a lot more than I realized. Granted, a lot changed once I found out I was expecting, causing my goals for 2013 to change dramatically. But they just changed to revolve around Vee. For example, “baking more” was replaced by drinking boatloads of water per doctor’s orders; home DIY projects equaled me nesting; and snailmailing was replaced by me writing her letters to read when she grows up. With the exception of picking up with “Know Your Sole” I’m happy to report I did much more on my resolution list than I was expecting. ::: High five! ::: This year, I’m taking the same approach of working towards goals that make me a happier person. After all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! I’m putting together my list right now and will share them on New Year’s Day.

It’s either the leftover high of Christmas or the impending clean slate we’re all about to receive for 2014 – but I’m feeling extremely inspired. Check out the inspiration goods below:

These hand-drawn animated gifs are AWESOME!

Very cool re-illustrated posters for movies of the past 50 years.

I love relearning how to do things in Illustrator. Here’s how to create a comic-style text or a geometric pattern.

Mine is “shopaholic.” What word was invented and added to the dictionary in your birth year?

Seven ways to boost your creativity.

All I want to do is design barcodes now.

My favorite interview question asked of me was, “What type of fruit would you be, and why?” Check out this pretty entertaining post about favorite interview questions.

Alright. These 1-year-old birthday invitations put all parents to shame. I can’t help but drool over them.

Sometimes, I want to be Tad Carpenter… okay, almost all of the time I want to be Tad Carpenter.

This mug from KinaCeramicDesign makes me want to put Peety stuff on all things ceramic!

Saul Bass is my favorite. Check out every movie poster he’s ever created.

I know it’s a little late but we finally put up our Christmas tree this past weekend. Now, it officially feels like Christmas. I’ve got a few more things I need to scoop up to put under the tree but thanks to Amazon Prime, I’m more than halfway done. Woohoo! I do need some suggestions on places where I can find a bunch of small fun things to buy as stocking stuffers. Any ideas? Share ’em with me in the comments.

Let’s go thru our Monday Inspiration:

First up, I gotta do a shameless plug. If you’re looking to give the gift of Peety this Christmas, get it while everything is 40% Off! Use code: PEETYHOLIDAY40 at my Etsy shop and get some awesome prints, original drawings, or cards for a fraction of the cost.

I wish The Simpsons were as funny as they used to be while I was growing up. These t-shirts, though, make me love ’em all over again.

Have I mentioned how much I love daily projects? Check out One Year of Design.

I want to buy all of these for every charger in my home.

It is Monday after all so I’m sure you’re in dire need of some laughter. Clear out your schedule for the next 10 minutes because this clip with Conan O’Brien, Kevin Hart and Ice Cube is fucking epic.

I know where I’ll be this Valentine’s Day – cuddled up on the couch with my husband watching House of Cards, Season 2. Check out the trailer.

Do you listen to music while you work? Here‘s how it affects you. Pretty interesting article.

And lastly, Caption Contests will be making a comeback in 2014! Stay tuned for more deets in the next Monday Inspiration.

Tuesday Inspiration | May 28, 2013

Hello friends. I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend! I spent time with my dad and husband and tried to keep it as low-key as possible. Especially with the cool weather in the DMV area, we decided to stay put and forego our beach plans. I worked on baby shower invites and posted a photo on Instagram. I’ll have a full blog post on the design and production of those in the next couple of weeks.  In the meantime, let’s get this Tuesday edition of Monday Inspiration underway!

Oh, the endless possibilities of the amazing things that can be made of legos.

Getting tired of Lorem Ipsum? Add a bit of sweetness to your fill text with Cupcake Ipsum.

Diggin’ these skewed icons from Creative Market.

On the other hand, I am NOT diggin’ the rebrand of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

This looks like an interesting read.

Seinfeld fans – you’ll love this Etsy shop.

Are you guys digging the new Flickr? I love these Yahoo! avatars for Flickr.

You mean, I can still make mixed tapes?!

Etsy Highlight: Circa Ceramics

With the help of (have you signed up to receive their emails, yet?), I have discovered Circa Ceramics. Luckily, they have a shop on Etsy so I’m able to feature them as an Etsy Highlight! I’m really glad, too, because they have awesome goods available for purchase – I guarantee you’ll want at least a handful of their items.

Circa Ceramics is run by Nancy and Andy in Chicago. I am in love with their style. From the colors to the simple graphics, I can imagine buying the majority of these pieces for my kitchen, office, work space, and as gifts. Debuting during their sale is their newest ceramic shape, the tumbler! I WANT THEM ALL! Of course, my favorite is the one with the skull graphic.

Screen Shot 2013-02-27 at 2.28.08 PM

The tumblers are currently available only on for the price of $22. They will be added to their Etsy shop for $32, full price. Here are a few of my other favorites from Circa Ceramics:

Magnet Set in Action. Set of 3 for $24.

Little Plate Owl. $30.
Screen Shot 2013-02-27 at 3.55.06 PMSpoon Rest Pink Pearl. $25.
Screen Shot 2013-02-27 at 3.58.45 PMCirca Ceramics is definitely going to have a purchase from Peety Draws. Their cool style, fun graphics and colors are totally something that needs to be a part of my life!
