Trying out Jake Parker’s InkTober prompts for this month. I’m starting a few days late but thought I could still use it as a way to explore these Peety character stories. I’m planning on posting for InkTober on Instagram more regularly for anyone interested in being introduced to more characters.
Until then, this is Anne.
I had a super severe case of the Mondays this morning as I was getting bloodwork drawn for my routine physical. The lady drawing my blood had the most delightful attitude for this time of day and week that I couldn’t refrain from telling her that she just gave me motivation for my day. She said to me, “Ya know, I can’t complain. I’ve got good health, a roof over my head, a job I can tolerate, and co-workers I generally like.” Totally the mindset I needed for a cuckoo bananas day like today. Thank you blood-drawer lady, for reminding me that it doesn’t take much to change your mindset. Continue reading
August freakin’ one. It’s been a long time since I’ve talked to you guys. Quite a few changes have happened for my fam in the last month which is why Monday Inspiration has been M.I.A. One thing I’ve learned to be true about myself and can finally admit – I am NOT good with sudden change. If I know a change is coming, I guess I can prepare for it but I’m still the worst worrier known to mankind. However, if a change comes outta the dark and blindsides me?! I am out of commission for at least a few weeks. My insides are churning at this concession but I can’t deny it at any longer – I HATE CHANGE. My husband always has an amazing way to give me strength and although it sounds simple everyone else, he knows what I need to hear to help me pick myself back up. So, right now, our mantra is: Ride the Wave. Simple, right? But right now, those words are giving me LIFE. Continue reading
Laundry laundry laundry all weekend looooong. But I am almost done and it’s thrilling to see the bottom of my laundry hamper. I also made a dent in Season 4 of OITNB this weekend. I thought the season started off kind of boring, same ol’ same ol’. But it’s got my full on attention now. Are any of you watching? I also went to see The Neon Demon. Holy shit, man. Visually, it’s just dropping with such luscious color and texture. I wanna sop it up with some bread and devour it. The movie itself, however… I’ll let my husband put it into words when he writes his review on it for cinemasamurai.net. I still can’t process what my eyeballs endured. Continue reading
I’ve had an overload of inspiration and nostalgia over the last few days. From Jessica Hische to Bob Ross (yes, that Bob Ross) I’m still basking in the high of the weekend and am desperately holding onto it. One of the most exciting things I listened to was Jessica Hische’s talk with GitHub (thanks for sharing the podcast, John!). She talks about the importance of Passion Projects and “procrastiworking.” I share her thoughts on both of these topics and can relate to having so many personal projects and hating that I have a 9-5 a lot of the time. So her analogy explaining the usefulness of your 9-5 was my favorite and something I totally needed to hear. She compares her day job and her personal projects to Bruce Wayne and Batman (18:48). Basically, Batman cannot exist with the help (and funding) from Bruce Wayne. Similarly, there’s no way I could do my own personal “vigilante” work without the help of my day job. I have responsibilities in life that I cannot shed and need money to ensure they are taken care of. And whatever that way that happens, be cool with it because I gotta be Batman after that and my vigilante work is too good to mess that up. But please, listen to Hische explain it because her way sounds much more revolutionary for your mind. Continue reading
I had an extended holiday, adding a few days of vacation from my 9-5 before the weekend. It was spent sketching, sleeping, and reading. I usually can’t read more than one book at a time but since Girl on the Train is an audiobook, I thought maybe reading Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari wouldn’t be too disruptive. Plus, it’s more of an educational reading compared to the entertainment of Girl on the Train. I’m maybe only 50 pages in and already Modern Romance is making me feel two things: happy that I met my husband before the advent of texting on the regs and depressed for my daughter. Hopefully by the time she enters the dating world, a nostalgia for the old ways will resurface. Continue reading
No public eff you video can take away the attention of Prince’s death. Just like the rest of the world, I’m so saddened, shocked, and in disbelief. I read an article on Wired about the creation his symbol – floppy disks! Throughout the weekend, my husband and I poured over articles, videos about him and of course, his music. Even Vee danced around a bit to parts of Purple Rain as we watched it. Like the rest of you, I will be honed in on any news reports about cause of death because, wtf?!
The 9-5 work week is going end a little early for me because my sister’s wedding is coming up this weekend. I get to eat tons of delicious food, see family I haven’t seen in a long while, get dolled up, and have a few days off in honor of this momentous celebration. Crossing my fingers this work week goes by quickly. In the meantime, inspiration: Continue reading
I’ve been noticing a forgetfulness in myself, lately. I think I keep trying to prove to myself that I can keep up with all the things life is bringing my way but ya know what? I just can’t. And instead of fighting against it, I’m going to try and slow myself down. Work smarter, not harder, right?
The weather this week has been gooooorgeous and all the vitamin D I’m soaking up is making me stupid happy. I think that’s why this mid-week inspiration post is so meaty. Enjoy! Continue reading
