Last week passed by like a blur. I can recap it with only these words: sleep deprivation. I had a lot of freelance deadlines I had to meet which meant a lot of late nights for me. I feel motivated in times like that and productive, too. But looking at my average sleep on my fitbit results, I can’t help but cringe. Not good. Then came the crazy rains this area had over the weekend and I was able to for real sleep in a bit. I did more than half of my sister’s Disney puzzle she was putting together, watched old episodes of Project Runway, and it was bliss. I ended the weekend with breakfast with one of my girlfriends and listened to Audy record his latest episode for Cinema Samurai’s Film Don’t Lie Podcast. Continue reading

No public eff you video can take away the attention of Prince’s death. Just like the rest of the world, I’m so saddened, shocked, and in disbelief. I read an article on Wired about the creation his symbol – floppy disks! Throughout the weekend, my husband and I poured over articles, videos about him and of course, his music. Even Vee danced around a bit to parts of Purple Rain as we watched it. Like the rest of you, I will be honed in on any news reports about cause of death because, wtf?!

The 9-5 work week is going end a little early for me because my sister’s wedding is coming up this weekend. I get to eat tons of delicious food, see family I haven’t seen in a long while, get dolled up, and have a few days off in honor of this momentous celebration. Crossing my fingers this work week goes by quickly. In the meantime, inspiration: Continue reading

Waaaaaaaah! My staycation has come to an end. I’m not looking forward to heading back into the routine that the 9-5 brings but I do thrive in an environment of predictability so maybe it’s a good thing. Quite a few items were crossed off my to-do list but I still found time to relax. I got about 100 pages in on Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please, and it makes me so effn happy. Why the hell don’t I make time to read more often?! When is it acceptable to blame your child for not being able to do the things you want. Oh, RIGHT NOW?! Then yes, I blame you VEE!

I finally made my way to IKEA and bought two sets of kitchen towels, these and these, and I’m so glad I did. They add a little fun to our pretty standard kitchen. I also bought some bathroom storage stuffs but my favorite purchased item was FINALLY this rug. Ever since I rolled it out onto our basement floor, my husband, Vee, and I have made camp and spent the weekend sprawled out over every inch. It’s already been christened with drops of sippy cup water, spilled rice, and juice of a fresh tomato. I’ll let you guess who was responsible for all of that mess. I BLAME YOU, VEE!

I also hung out with some fam and friends. I spent some time with my brother for lunch near his job. We talked over wings and mashed potatoes courtesy of Nando’s. I haven’t been there in quite a while and it hit the spoooot. Vee and I also hung out with my sister and once she drifted off to napland, we decided to punish our childhood by watching a movie we used to be obsessed with, Teen Witch on Netflix. I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a clever way of describing how hilariously awful this movie is but this scene from the movie pretty much sums it up. I think it might actually be so awful it’s good. My husband and I had dinner with our friend Lhynette, a friend from my college days at University of Maryland. She’s one of the few people who joins in on my inappropriate jokes, is witty as hell, and can laugh the entire time we hang out. It’s a guaranteed good, chill, and fun time.

I ended the weekend at home with my husband and got a movie in with him. We watched L’Eclisse. I’m so lucky to have someone like Audy with me when we watch movies of this caliber because he is able to pick apart a scene, explain the nuances, and determine meaning where I am unable. It was definitely a good watch. In between movies and Vee’s coloring time, we packaged up a lot of crap from our basement and are FINALLY getting it hauled out of the house. It feels good to declutter, reassess, and then clean out some more. We are in our first phase of the cleaning out process and efffff it feels good.

Tuesday Inspiration | May 19, 2015

It’s Tuesday but it’s feels like a Thursday. Oh weekend. How I miss you so. Our little family has developed a routine for our weekends making my heart go pitter patter. The springtime is so much more enjoyable with a little one in tow. Watching the world thru Vee’s eyes is fascinating and really forces me to pay attention to things I usually take for granted. As much I love having her around, it’s also nice to have quality time with my husband sans toddler. We had a wonderful and sweet dinner with my best friend and her family and friends to celebrate her becoming a Nurse Practitioner over the weekend. Woo woo! We took the dinner as an opportunity to drop Vee off with her eagerly awaiting grandparents and have a night full of adult conversation, delicious noms and movies! Well… we attempted to watch movies. The additional upside of getting a break from Vee? Much needed sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

My weekend was wonderful but I was sad to end it with the finale of Mad Men… it’s over. I know many were ready to say good-bye to the show seasons ago but I fell in love with the characters, their lives, and storylines. They belonged in mine just as much as I was the voyeur in theirs. My Sunday nights are going to feel naked without the smoky haze of the Mad Men world. Speaking of television, I’m looking forward to the Starz series called Blunt Talk. Looks like a fun ride and exactly what my summer needs.

These last few weeks have been tough ones to get the Monday Inspiration out when it should but I’m glad you guys are still stopping by to get your inspiration dose. Here’s to next week!

I started following Mark Mann on Instagram and finally checked out his site. he really knows how to capture a mood and feeling of any person he’s shooting. Beautiful.

Okay, I started tearing up looking at all the captures on Moment Junkie.

I can’t wait to read this!

It’s all about perspective, literally. I can’t even imagine the type of planning this must have taken!

I tried my first chatbook and it was pretty cool. However, these little black photo books are just too delicious to pass up. I might have to make one… or a few… dozen.

Monday Inspiration: Sept 8, 2014

The start of football season. Ah. Even though I don’t watch football anywhere near as avidly as I have in years past, I still love what it signifies: family and friends camaraderie, a set schedule for the weekends (and occasionally, a Thursday night), and lots of yummy homemade foods. Plus, fall will shortly be upon us – my favorite time of year. Amidst all the craziness in my life, it’s nice to have these small things to look forward to.

There’s a lot of inspiration to go around in this edition. Let’s do this.

I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. Mine was incredibly busy and as a result, exhausting. Thankfully, I’ve been able to put my feet up after the wonderful baby shower my family threw for my husband and myself. I’ll be posting pics of the screen-printed invites soon – I think they turned out pretty awesome! We received a lot of great little books to build our baby’s library but I have a feeling I’m going to love the books even more. You’ve got to admit – children’s books always have unique illustrations and the most simplistic approach to a story. It’s exactly how I try to execute anything I design.

Speaking of design, check out what’s been tickling my inspiration lately:

Mads & Peety Day: A Recap

Seems like forever ago Mads and I had our day off together. If I could describe that day in one word, it would be: Perfect. It was filled with all my favorite things, after all. Let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

We started our day off with a relaxing breakfast at Starbucks where we had our fill of girl talk over caffeine to fuel our day. It’s such a different experience entering a Starbucks without being in a rush. I highly recommend it!

As we headed into Ikea, I couldn’t help but be reminded of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel running thru the Ikea showroom in “(500) Days of Summer.” To rid the awful notion that someone could break JGL’s heart, Mads and I created new FUN memories in Ikea.

We said our good-byes to Ikea, hopped into my car and headed to Franklin’s Brewery. Their General Store is one of my absolute favorite spots to pick up unique and hilarious gifts for all occasions. I feel like I mention them constantly but it’s only because I love them so much. I think it’s safe to say Mads loved Franklin’s just as much as me. It’s where she met Tommy the Narwhal, a fabulous finger puppet. Just look at how happy she is!

Tommy the Narwhal was probably the most significant purchase we made but we still enjoyed browsing the crammed aisles of goodies. I’ve already decided to buy this old school comic mug set whenever I make it back. You can never have enough mugs, plus, they make excellent gifts. Hm, a no brainer with Christmas creeping up.

As we made our way into the restaurant to devour old bay covered onion rings, I realized this day was officially coming to an end. Mads made visiting my favorite neighborhood places so fun and exciting, I didn’t want the awesomeness to end.

That’s when we realized the memory of our adventures could live thru YOU. How? By entering the Mads & Peety Day Giveaway! Win this fabulous original Peety drawing and DIY frame by Mads. It’s a one of a kind prize and captures the best parts of our day together. [GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED]

Mads & Peety: Day Off Extravaganza!

Tomorrow, I am taking a much needed day off to spend with mah gurl, Mads aka Madeline. We met as co-workers and she has quickly become my friend, first and foremost. I’ve mentioned her a few times before, more recently on my Stress-Reliever Excursion. Our days are filled with important matter such as the latest Mad Men news, our happiness in Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the Golden Globes and deciphering the latest episodes of Homeland and Dexter. She understands my healthy obsession with Nutella and we share hatred for anything Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey related. What can I say? She’s mah gurl.

For our day off, we’ve planned a trip to Ikea and Franklin’s Brewery (my love affair documented here). Which leads me to the reason for this post – the Mads & Peety Giveaway! Mads will break out her DIY skills for a frame she picks up at Ikea which will house an original Peety Draws artwork inspired by our day. Details for the giveaway will be posted on Peety Blogs and Drunk on Discounts Monday morning (Oct. 29). Stay tuned!

In the meantime, make sure to follow our tweets, #MadsPeetyDay (yep, we’re that important) and Instagram pics as we document the fun!
