Monday Inspiration | Apr 29, 2013

Well, hello there. Another Monday morning is upon us, which means, the weekend is officially over. I spent the weekend at my parents’ house, so I basically had a mini-vacation. Their house has this Lost-like magnetic pull that forces me to relax, veg out and sleeeeeep. It was magical. A few highlights: got some sketching done for a couple of invites and my brother got engaged to Priya (the very same from Priya’s Time and Space Museum), which means, we’re going to officially be family. 🙂 Family weddings are ALWAYS fun so I’m super stoked.

The inspiration world has been good to me over the last week because today’s Monday Inspiration is a pretty meaty one. I have seen so many awesome things I’ve been saving to bombard you guys with to help start this week off right. Let’s get to it!

Good morning, friends. I hope everyone had a great weekend! My husband and I went to the first part of the AMC Best Picture Showcase on Saturday where we watched four of the nine best picture nominations for the Oscars. We’re going to see the remaining five this Saturday and I can’t wait! Let’s check out what’s on tap for this edition of Monday Inspiration.

In celebration of the Oscars this weekend, how many of these best picture winners can you guess (thanks for the heads up, Crystal!)?

Legos + Coffee Mug. Does it get any better than this?

I love the die-cut shapes and colors creating this cohesive brand for Minke.

InstaThis seems like a really cool option for printing your Instagram photos.

Jon Gray’s book cover designs make me want to judge books solely by their cover. Aren’t they great?

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I was a little under the weather and tried to rest as much as possible. The highlight of my weekend was the early birthday celebration for my mom with a super laid back dinner and cake cutting. She’s a beautiful 57-years-old today. Happy birthday, mom! And with that – inspiration time!

I’m in awe of the Hide in the City project by Liu Bolin. Thanks for the heads up, Crystal!

Love these gorgeous illustrations by Claudia Pearson.

Good morning, friends! Are you guys ready for Christmas?! I feel like I still have so much to do! I know I’m a little behind but the Christmas tree was finally put up this past week with accompanying decorations around the house. I bought a few gingerbread houses and trees to coat with candy so stay tuned for those pics later this week on Instagram. Even though I’m behind on the Christmas decorating, I am on my A-game for secret santa. All the goodies for the different secret santa gift exchanges I’m part of this year have been bought. Now it’s time to wrap and make them look pretty. And with that, let’s begin today’s inspiration.

How awesome are these teal-edged wedding invites?

Must find a reason to use this vector batman pattern. Wrapping paper, maybe?

Why didn’t this illustrated periodic table exist when I was in high school?

Love these beautiful dioramas created by Illustrator, Ellen Mackay.

Monday Inspiration | Dec 10, 2012

This past weekend felt like the beginning of Christmas for me. I had an early secret santa gift exchange with my girlfriends, got dolled up and attended a holiday party with my husband, and FINALLY dragged out all our Christmas decorations to put up throughout the week (I know, I’m so behind). I also started addressing Peety Christmas cards that I printed at Typecase Industries’ workshop (read about it here). I think it’s official – I’m in a very festive mood. Time to dig into this week’s inspiration.

Etsy Highlight: Nan Lawson Illustration

Are you guys big on buying from Etsy? There are things I really enjoy about it as a seller – the ease of opening a shop, the built-in support of fellow sellers, and promoting your work. The drawback, personally speaking, is that there are SO many artists on this site, it can be a bit overwhelming, making it difficult to find that hidden gem. That’s why I’m introducing a new Peety Blogs feature: Etsy Highlight, where I share my current favorite artists or artwork on Etsy.

Let me introduce you to Nan Lawson Illustration. She describes her artwork as “cute quirky and nerdy art.” Learn more about her here. I am pretty obsessed with the whimsical quality of her work. Somehow, the softness of the colors and illustration style are a perfect match for each captured image. I am so annoyed with myself for not being an owner of one of her rad prints already!

My favorites are the pop culture prints, available in 8×10 or 5×7 dimensions.

I’m Sick of These Dolphins.

You Had Me At Meat Tornado.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving full of overeating and a lot of napping – because I know I did! On top of that, my hometown football team, the Redskins, won against the Cowboys and I got to work on a lot of Peety goodies! With Christmas creeping around the corner, I’d say I’m feeling pretty good right about now.

Let’s slice into this tryptophan-free helping of Monday Inspiration!

Guess what? Peety is available in desktop wallpaper form and available to you for freeeeeeeee! Help yourself.

Want to turn yourself into the Mona Lisa? 18th Me allows you do just that, along with other historical options (thanks for the heads up, Tomica!).

Know someone who loves to get crafty? Gift them a subscription to a monthly craft box – supplies included!

I love seeing the process of other artists/designers. I’ve mentioned my love for Sean McCabe’s lettering style in a previous post. Check out his tips on hand lettering.

Love this idea – recycling zippers. I’d wear it in a heartbeat.

Pantone ornaments! Pantone chairs! Pantone boxes!

Diggin’ these prints from CollageOrama. I scored these two prints over the weekend. Woo!

Check out Invisible Creature‘s shop and get to know them better. Their shop, illustrations and design are perfection to me.

Okay, a vending machine that dispenses books? I’m in love.

Monday Inspiration | Nov 19, 2012

Good morning, friends! I don’t know about you, but I’m getting super excited for Thanksgiving. This past weekend, I diligently went thru my recipe books, made my ingredient list and went shopping. If there’s one thing I love, it’s some good eatin’. Hope you guys had a great weekend. Let’s get some inspiration pumped into those veins!

Check out these badass stainless steel iPhone Cases. Upload your own art for a custom case! This would make a really awesome Christmas gift.

Bizarre holiday cards from Unusual Cards.

I follow Jon Carling on Facebook and love whenever his drawings and illustrations show up in my newsfeed. His drawings are available for purchase on Etsy.

I’m kinda diggin’ these wall art cut-outs, especially as mirrors.

What do YOU do with your post-its?

What a great idea! Everyone needs a comfort box as a reminder of how awesome they are.

I’m loving House Industries’ website. Their use of font on these items is so graphic – I love it. I really like the illustration treatment of their bio page, too.

Digging these posts with witty/sassy quotes and phrases.

And because I care that everyone has good food on Thanksgiving, please use Alton Brown’s recipe when preparing your Thanksgiving turkey. I’ve been using it for at least the last 5 – 6 years and it comes out PERFECT every time.
