I had a super severe case of the Mondays this morning as I was getting bloodwork drawn for my routine physical. The lady drawing my blood had the most delightful attitude for this time of day and week that I couldn’t refrain from telling her that she just gave me motivation for my day. She said to me, “Ya know, I can’t complain. I’ve got good health, a roof over my head, a job I can tolerate, and co-workers I generally like.” Totally the mindset I needed for a cuckoo bananas day like today. Thank you blood-drawer lady, for reminding me that it doesn’t take much to change your mindset. Continue reading

I’ve been MIA not only from Peety Blogs but also from personal creativity these last few months and it suuuuuuuuucked. Everything that usually gets in the way of obtaining that elusive balance in life just went up ten notches and I couldn’t keep things straight. People were sick. Work went cuckoo bananas crazy. Freelance work was never ending. Sleep may or may not have happened. My husband’s schedule went from demanding to bonkers. Things had to be sacrificed and unfortunately, Peety Draws paid the price. Now, I’ve entered what I’m looking at as a new phase and learning a different way to juggle the responsibilities of every day life. So, I’m trying again and that’s what is most important anyway, right?

With mental and physical exhaustion of the last few months and many things losing priority, I still managed to listen to Season 2 of Serial during long commutes or work. Not as compelling as Season 1 but still interesting. I also carved out time to design the invites for my sister’s bridal shower, mehndi, and created bleach t-shirts for her bachelorette weekend in Vegas (the process of which was stupidly simple and now I want to bleach-design all my t-shirts). And because I was basically only capable of participating in a binge-watch session or movie marathon on the most trying of days, I ended up watching quite a few things: Continue reading

Forget the crisp air and changing colors on trees – the pumpkin-flavored/smelling [insert noun] phenomenon is the ultimate indicator that fall is here. As much as I love autumn, I’m not a big fan of what follows – snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. Maybe that’s part of why I’m feeling the impending blues of the wintertime. I’m going to savor the mild weather for as long as I can. In the meantime, you guys send me all the good vibes I can get!

Two weekends ago, my husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary. It was low-key, as usual, full of movies, books (specifically the purchase of this and this) food and sleep! I love the way we celebrate because after a week of long commutes, work, cleaning up after Vee, and everyday errands, a weekend full of relaxing times with the one I love is heaven. Continue reading

How are all you mofos doing?! It’s been two weeks since you last heard from me and with good reason. I’ve had some of the most fun and happy weekends despite one of the rainiest June months I can remember. I had weekends full of friends, lots of laughter, Vee’s hilarious antics, spending time with my husband, and caring less about the house not being perfectly in order or not knowing where my freelance jobs are going to come from. It’s been freeing and just FUN! One of the awesome things my husband and I did was go to Wolf Trap to hear the National Symphony Orchestra play the score to Back to the Future LIVE while we watched it on the big screen. We had been looking forward to going for months. The night was perfect and bonus – Lea Thompson and the composer of the score, Alan Silvestri, were there, too! It was a pretty incredible experience – the wind blowing, the sun setting, and Marty and Doc gunning it to 88mph. It was everything I hoped it would be and more.

That same weekend, I attended my first drag queen brunch. I was scared out of my mind because I wasn’t sure what type of participation they were going to expect out of the crowd. I am no good in “on-the-spot” situations. I get all shy and tense up, then go speechless and suffer from intense “Monday morning quarterback syndrome” on the witty comeback or the perfect answer that now seems so obvious. In the end, I did get called out but no participation was required on my part. Our server at the brunch was Beyoncé and her performance was SPOT. ON.

My sister, Jenny, is getting married next year and gathered her bridesmaids together for a dinner to unofficially start the wedding festivities and to get to know each other a little better. We had dinner at Barcelona Wine Bar and it was so ::: drools ::::. There are no words to describe how delicious. I had a wonderful time hanging out with my sister and talking wedding stuffs. The best was her expression when the girls revealed we had been working together on a keepsake book full of stories with my sis and words of advice on her impending marriage. I designed the book but it couldn’t have been done without the help of the bridesmaids, who are now officially known as #sixshadesofjenny.

My husband and I od’ed on Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight. I wasn’t a huge fan of Boyhood but these three movies, I can’t get enough of. We watched the movies while Vee took her nap, before we went to bed, and when we woke up. I guess we were in the mood for that easy, funny, interesting minutia driven conversation between Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke’s characters. They’re both so insanely good in that movie – my eyes are literally glues to the screen. Yes. LITERALLY GLUED.

And finally, 4th of July was pretty low-key. Vee was in a wonderful little mood. We hung out outside (where I proceeded to get bitten up like crazy by mosquitos that can’t resist my dark meat, according to my husband), chased Vee around with sparklers and watched her parade around the house in excitement. We watched the fireworks on TV and Vee couldn’t have loved it more, to my surprise. Next year, we’ll definitely do it up and see ’em in person.

YAY! Time-wasters for creatives!

Must purchase Judd Apatow’s book. He retweeted my tweet about me wishing I had the book and so now I have to make it happen because, PEER PRESSURE!

Drinkable Coke-zero Ad. Reminds me of the “Just taste it” tagline in Mad Men’s whipped cream pitch.

I love Kung Fu Panda! I will be there when the new one comes out. Check out the trailer.

Recently discovering that I do, in fact, like over easy eggs, I will be trying this out next weekend. I can already taste the crunchy and gooey goodness.

I listened to a few podcasts from Mortified. A few of them are pretty amusing.

Speaking of podcasts, my husband just turned me onto How Did This Get Made? SO good.

What can you get for $0.78 these days? A DOZEN KRISPY KREME DONUTS, THAT’S WHAT!

Mmmmmm. Free font from Lost Type.

Undo that shit!

Still a bit behind but excited to finish my #the100dayproject so I can print posters!

Well hello there, Monday. I am on staycation this week, friends. I have a few things planned that I’d like to try and do but other than that, I’m filling up my weekend with naps, lunches/breakfasts with friends, and random errands here and there. My goal? To do whatever I feel like doing. Naps? I’m game. Vegging out? Done. Clean? Hm, only if I’m feeling ambitious. I’ve spent the morning finishing up the Netflix series, Grace and Frankie and now I’m watching Top of the Lake. Let’s see how things go from there. Hope everyone else has as restful of a week as I do!

I think Barely Blair may be my new favorite.

Woo! Seasons 2 and 3 confirmed for Serial!

Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola and Christmas?! Yes, please!

I may be a bit interested in Jessica Hische’s new book.

I’m really wanting to try this recipe. Anyone baked anything like this before?

I like browsing Society6 for artwork. I’m not into cats but I like this throw pillow. Although, this one speaks to me more truthfully.

This faux fur mirror is freaking me out.

Super simple DIY teepee. I need to make this.

I continued last weekend’s relaxation into this weekend and it was awesome. I napped a lot, caught up on emails, watched a lot of Redbox movies, and vegged out. Work has really been taking it out of me lately so I take advantage of recoop time and try my best to do nothing. I have a feeling this work week won’t be any different so I gotta get the relaxation time where I can!

Have you guys seen any cool things lately? I’ve got a quite a few to share so let’s get to it:

1

I have no idea how Jacob Everett has the patience to create these ballpoint pen portraits

Have you seen Neenah Paper’s, The Beauty of Letterpress site? GORGEOUS.

I am definitely going to try making my own envelopes out of scrap paper. I really need to do this instead of buying envelopes.

Love love love these die-cut Save the Dates!

More wedding invite goodness – this time in coral and mint.

These little characters have got some great colors and textures.
